In the past decade, the use of ferritic stainless steel has increased rapidly in Europe and America, especially the stainless steel used for automobile exhaust system. So is the stainless steel industry widely used in transportation?
At present, the technical development of the automobile industry is facing 3 great challenges, namely, price reduction, safety measures and environmental protection. Mandatory control measures were adopted in automobile exhaust emission, and stainless steel began to be applied in automobile exhaust system. According to the Research Report of the Japan Automobile Industry Association, the amount of stainless steel used in automobile exhaust systems has increased by 1% in the past nine years. At present, the exhaust system of modern car engines in the world is made of stainless steel, 80% of which is ferritic stainless steel, and each car uses about 3-25kg. At this level, 1.5 million to 2 million vehicles will be put on the market every year. Stainless steel equipment used in the automobile industry includes muffler, water cooling pipe, oil gauge, air bag chamber, oil cooler plate heat exchanger, automobile fasteners, rearview mirror, automobile parts, automobile sheet metal stamping parts, etc.
The stainless steel used in the transportation industry is not only in the automobile industry, but also in the shipbuilding industry. Stainless steel is widely used in the shipbuilding industry. As early as the 1950s, the propeller shaft of the speedboat has been successfully applied to stainless steel, and the exhaust system of the two-phase motor has been used. The hull structure of transport video, chemical ship and refrigerated ship are all made of stainless steel. Why? Stainless steel is durable and has been used in Britain and America for ten years without corrosion.
Of course, the application range of different stainless steels is not the same, and the specific can be determined according to the actual application range of stainless steels.
