A High Performance Mechanically Alloyed Stainless Steel Composite Coating via Friction Surfacing
A novel SS316/SS420 composite coating was fabricated via friction surfacing. The coating consists of 67.8% austenite (from SS316) and 32.2% lath martensite (from SS420), with refined grains (2.03-3.99 μm). Elemental interdiffusion created Ni-deficient austenite and Ni-rich martensite, significantly enhancing mechanical properties, wear/corrosion resistance while minimizing galvanic corrosion. This eco-friendly method provides a low-cost approach for high-performance alloys.
