Among the components of stainless steel, 304 and 316 have the highest usage rate. They can be used as inner liners for thermos cups, as well as various cooking utensils and equipment. It is still a food grade material that is safe enough for daily use.

304 stainless steel contains about 18% chromium and over 8% nickel; On this basis, 316 stainless steel also adds 2% molybdenum element, making its corrosion resistance more superior. In addition, there are 201 series and 430 series stainless steel, which have much weaker quality and advantages compared to the above two, so their usage rate is not high.

1. Different corrosion resistance performance

Because 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum element, its corrosion resistance is better and its acid and alkali resistance is also improved.

304 stainless steel lacks molybdenum element, so its corrosion resistance, acid and alkali resistance are not as good as 316.

2. Different application fields

Although both are food grade materials, they are used in different fields. For example, 316 stainless steel has good corrosion resistance, and many medical devices are made of 316.

And 304 stainless steel is widely used in cookware, tableware, and so on, with a wide range of applications. Our stainless steel countertops, stir fry pans, and stainless steel tableware all use 304.

3. Different prices

Purchasing 316 stainless steel costs over 20000 yuan per ton, while purchasing 304 costs between 15000 and 20000 yuan per ton, so the cost price of 316 is higher.

But the price of 316 is higher because of its superior performance and the principle of 'you get what you pay for'.

If you pursue cost-effectiveness, you will definitely buy 304 stainless steel, which is corrosion-resistant, tough, and heat-resistant, and can basically meet our daily needs.

If you frequently brew beverages such as milk and coffee, it is recommended to purchase 316 stainless steel because milk and coffee are highly corrosive, and 304 can be easily corroded.

If you want to buy a better quality insulated cup, then choose a 316 inner liner and a 304 or 201 stainless steel outer shell.

It should be noted that 316 stainless steel is relatively soft, so when cleaning the cup liner, it is best to use a sponge brush to maintain it. Cleaning with other harder materials may leave scratches.

In summary, when comparing the materials of 304 and 316, 316 is definitely better, with strong corrosion resistance and acid and alkali resistance; In terms of cost-effectiveness, 304 has a slight advantage.

When choosing 304 and 316 stainless steel products, you should decide according to your own usage environment and not spend money recklessly just to pursue high prices.
