In daily life, we know that stainless steel material is mainly divided into 200 series, 300 series and 400 series. And about "duplex stainless steel", it is not necessarily familiar. In everyone's concept, that is a high-level stainless steel grade, and it is something that the traditional and old-fashioned companies such as Tisco, Jusco and Lianzhong can produce such stainless steel material grade maturely.

Judging from the information fed back from the downstream, everyone is generally concerned about the breakthroughs of S32001 duplex stainless steel in terms of rust resistance, processing performance, product standards, and price levels. To understand these problems, we first understand some basic knowledge of duplex stainless steel:                       

01.What is Duplex Stainless Steel?

Duplex stainless steel refers to stainless steel with ferrite and austenite each accounting for about 50%, and generally the content of less phase needs to reach 30% at least (remind customers: duplex stainless steel has the magnetic characteristics of ferrite). In the case of low C content, the Cr content is 18%~28%, and the Ni content is 3%~10%. Some stainless steels also contain alloying elements such as Mo, Cu, Nb, Ti, and N.

02.What are the advantages of duplex stainless steel?

1. Sufficient plasticity and toughness

The wall thickness of storage tanks or pressure vessels made of duplex stainless steel is 30-50% lower than that of commonly used 300 series austenitic stainless steel, which is conducive to reducing costs.

2. Ress corrosion cracking

Even the lowest alloyed duplex stainless steels have a higher resistance to stress corrosion cracking than the 300-series or austenitic stainless steels, especially in chloride-containing environments.                                                                                                                                                         

3. Excellent corrosion resistance, better than 300 series                                                                                      

In many media, the corrosion resistance of the most commonly used 2205 duplex stainless steel is better than that of ordinary 316L (austenitic stainless steel), so the corrosion resistance of economical S32001 duplex steel is naturally better than that of ordinary SS304 (austenitic stainless steel).                                                                                                                                                                                                                  

4. Strong connection ability

S32001 coefficient of linear expansion is lower than that of 300 series austenitic stainless steel, which is close to that of carbon steel.                                                                                                                                                       

5. Higher absorption capacity

Whether under dynamic load or static load conditions, it has higher energy absorption capacity than 300 series austenitic stainless steel, which has obvious advantages for structural parts to cope with sudden accidents such as collision, explosion, etc.

Duplex stainless steel can be used in a wider filed,including of oil and gas transportation, chemical tanker manufacturing, nuclear power, construction, petroleum refining, environmental protection engineering, rail transit, building curtain walls, water conservancy engineering, tank containers, plate heat exchangers, pulp and paper, food machinery and so on.
