321 and 304 stainless steel corrosion resistance and high temperature performance
Time:2024-07-06 Source: Hits:

As an important metal material, stainless steel is widely used in many industrial fields. Among them, 321 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel have received much attention for their unique properties. Although both belong to austenitic stainless steel, there are certain differences in corrosion resistance and high temperature properties.

First of all, from the point of view of corrosion resistance, the difference between 321 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel is not large. Both have excellent corrosion resistance and are able to maintain stable chemical properties in a variety of environments. This makes them ideal for manufacturing a wide range of corrosion-resistant equipment, containers and pipes.

However, when it comes to high temperature conditions, 321 stainless steel shows its unique advantages. At 500-600 degrees Celsius, the heat resistance of 321 stainless steel is significantly better than that of 304 stainless steel. This is because titanium (Ti) is added to 321 stainless steel as a stabilizing element, so that it has better intergranular corrosion resistance and high temperature strength. The addition of titanium effectively controls the formation of chromium carbide, thus improving the stability and durability of stainless steel at high temperatures.

In addition to high temperature properties, 321 stainless steel is also a heat strength steel with excellent high temperature stress breaking properties and high temperature creep resistance. This makes its stress mechanical properties at high temperatures better than 304 stainless steel, can withstand greater stress and deformation. Therefore, 321 stainless steel is especially suitable for high temperature application scenarios such as the manufacture of wear-resistant acid containers and the linings of wear-resistant equipment and conveying pipes. For example, oil exhaust gas combustion pipes, engine exhaust pipes, diesel engine muffler components, heating element tubes, etc., can be made of 321 stainless steel. In addition, because of its excellent performance at high temperatures, 321 stainless steel can also be used to manufacture braided or welded screens for high-temperature mineral processing, furnace pipes and spiral welded pipes for dryers.

Although 321 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel have little difference in corrosion resistance, under high temperature conditions, 321 stainless steel with its unique titanium stabilization element and excellent high temperature performance, becomes the ideal choice for manufacturing wear-resistant equipment and high temperature pipes.
