With the conservation of energy, reduce carbon emissions and other environmental protection concepts increasingly popular, the downstream industry on the low carbon steel iron material requirements are getting higher and higher, high-performance silicon steel is an important soft magnetic functional materials in the power industry, power engineering, electronic devices and other industries on the magnetic alloy research and development needs urgent, such alloys are widely used in the electronic industry, precision instrumentation automatic control system, It is an important material in national economic activities.

It is understood that oriented silicon steel is the main material of the transformer core, which can produce a strong magnetic field under a certain excitation magnetomotive force and is the magnetic circuit of the transformer. High grade oriented silicon steel has the characteristics of high magnetic induction and low iron loss. The single-phase capacity of the UHV transformer is 3-4 times that of the conventional 500kV single-phase transformer, and it is difficult to control magnetic leakage and prevent local overheating, and the rheology of the UHV transformer is also affected by harmonic, DC magnetic bias and other factors, so the iron core of the UHV and energy-saving transformer must be made of high-grade silicon steel. It is worth noting that before 2009, China did not master the core technology related to oriented silicon steel. In order to realize the independent protection of China's key power equipment and avoid being controlled by others, China will include high-grade oriented silicon steel in the "Made in China 2025 strategy" catalog, which is the high-end technology and products focused on the development of power equipment field.

In addition, with the large-scale investment and development of green energy such as wind power, photovoltaic, energy storage and new energy vehicle charging piles and data centers, the demand for oriented silicon steel continues to increase. Between 2023 and 2030, the amount of domestic oriented silicon steel will reach 2.5 million tons to 3 million tons, it is expected that the demand for oriented silicon steel in 2025 in China will reach about 2.5 million tons, and the demand for oriented silicon steel in 2030 in China will reach about 3.2 million tons.

In addition to UHV and new energy, the demand for high-performance silicon steel in the motor field is also large, and its energy saving and carbon reduction potential is also huge. Cao Haidong, deputy general manager of the National Small and medium-sized motor and System Engineering Technology Research Center, believes that the contribution rate of energy saving and efficiency to the promotion of carbon peak work in China is close to 70%. Therefore, the development and application of green and efficient power equipment is the key to energy saving and carbon reduction. The motor carbon reduction volume is huge. China's existing motor holdings of about 3.14 billion kilowatts, the annual electricity consumption accounts for about 60% of the whole society's electricity consumption, industrial electricity consumption of 75%. In 2021, the national industrial electricity consumption is 5,509 billion KWH, with the proportion of thermal power 68.8%, carbon dioxide emissions per unit of electricity 577 grams/KWH calculation, the total carbon dioxide emissions of the national motor is about 2.38 billion tons, close to the total carbon dioxide emissions of the whole society 1/4. It is the fastest way to reduce carbon with the least investment. Compared with other new energy solutions, reducing the same amount of carbon dioxide, the motor energy saving investment is less, and no additional sites and equipment are added; Compared with other power equipment such as boilers and diesel engines, the single motor price is lower, and the replacement is more flexible and convenient.

It is understood that in February 2023, the European Parliament passed the EU's Carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), also known as carbonborder tax or carbon tariff (carbonborder tax), which is a tax levied by the EU on the carbon emissions of some imported goods. According to the proposal of the EU Carbon Border Regulation mechanism, the carbon border regulation mechanism will cover five sectors in the European carbon market: electricity, steel, cement, aluminum and fertilizer. At the same time, the steel industry, as a typical resource and energy intensive industry, is one of the main battlefields in China to achieve carbon neutrality. The process of achieving the goal of carbon neutrality is the process of comprehensively improving the technological innovation ability of the steel industry, the process of significantly improving the comprehensive competitiveness, and the process of realizing the steel country to become a powerful country.
